Quad Loop is the first play about the highly publicized scandal surrounding Kamila Valieva at the 2022 Winter Olympics. The 15-year-old Russian figure skater was the favorite to win, until a failed doping test turned her Games upside down. This new play, starring an all-female cast, delves into the role played by the media and the relationship between sport and politics, between Russia and the West. Who is to blame for the destruction of a young girl?
The text, composed by Inge-Vera Lipsius, combines direct quotations, references to press articles and sports commentary, and original writing. Lipsius is a young Dutch-American director and writer. In 2025, Quad Loop was one of six pieces selected, from over 300 submissions, for the Bomb Factory Theatre New Writing Showcase at the Bush Theatre, where an extract was presented. In 2024, the play had its UK premiere at the Pushkin House in Bloomsbury, London, ahead of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics; this was also Lipsius’s UK debut.
Lipsius made her directorial debut at The Merchant House, Amsterdam, with Paranoia (2022/23)—her adaptation (the first stage adaptation) of the post-war novella by the classic Dutch author Willem Frederik Hermans. She is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and Ecole Philippe Gaulier in France. Her latest piece, Facility 111, was presented at Assembly at the Edinburgh Fringe 2025 (Lyn Gardner’s Top 20 Picks for the Fringe, 4 stars from The Scotsman and Theatre Weekly—with previews at the Omnibus Theatre and the Old Red Lion, and follow-up performances at the Bloomsbury Festival and Voila! Theatre Festival in London, among others).

Quad Loop: Een toneelstuk over de Winterspelen & het Kamila Valieva dopingschandaal
Als je haar ziet – vergeet je het dan? / Ja. Ik vergeet het. / Ik vergeet het allemaal.
Quad Loop is het eerste toneelstuk over het veelbesproken schandaal rondom Kamila Valieva op de Winterspelen 2022. De vijftienjarige Russische kunstschaatsster was de grote favoriet totdat een gefaalde dopingtest haar Spelen op zijn kop zette. Dit nieuwe toneelstuk, gespeeld door een ensemble van actrices, onderzoekt de rol die de media heeft gespeeld en de verhoudingen tussen sport en politiek, tussen Rusland en het Westen. Wie houden we verantwoordelijk voor de vernietiging van een jong meisje?
De tekst is samengesteld door Inge-Vera Lipsius en is een combinatie van directe citaten, referenties aan persartikelen en sportcommentaar, en originele tekst. Lipsius is een Nederlands-Amerikaanse regisseur en schrijver. In 2025 werd Quad Loop geselecteerd, uit meer dan 300 inzendingen, voor de Bomb Factory Theatre New Writing Showcase bij het prestigieuze Bush Theatre in Londen. In 2024 ging het stuk in Londen in première bij Pushkin House in Bloomsbury; dit was ook Lipsius’ debut in VK.
Lipsius maakte haar regiedebuut bij The Merchant House, Amsterdam, met Paranoia (2022/23), haar toneelstuk naar de gelijknamige novelle van Willem Frederik Hermans. Ze heeft aan de Universiteit van Cambridge gestudeerd en aan Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Frankrijk.
